Sailing – 10th/11th September

Saturday morning was quite calm but towards the start of the race, the wind got up to a good F4 gusting higher later. This brought exciting sailing with four boats taking to the water. Three boats took part in a handicap race with the final results:
1 -Lindsay and Hamish (Wayfarer)
2-John Graham (Solo)
3-Bryan and Kathy Locke (GP14)
Chris also took his brother out in the “Blue Machine” and gave him the excitement of an unexpected capsize! This was followed by a pursuit race.
On Sunday it was blowing a F4 (to 5 at times) and we had 5 boats venturing out on to the water.  Lindsay led us out, and showed us how quickly a Laser could whizz around the basin.  Jade had a shot in the newly restored, repainted and revarnished Optimist (many thanks to her dad Paul for his hard graft over the summer!), before handing it on to her brother Ewan and heading out with Paul to make a Mirror dinghy go as fast as any could have previously done on Montrose Basin!  Meanwhile Craig survived with one capsize and struggling to get out of irons in the Europe to also enjoy the fast reaches up the length of the Basin, whilst Jordan was busy showing his mum how to put a Laser Radial through its paces.  Many thanks to Kara and Chris for piloting the rescue boat, and to Arlene for helping serve up Kara’s hot soup which was appreciated by the cold and wet sailors.
