Report of Sailing for weekend 24 -25 September.

The forecast Indian Summer delivered last weekend with Saturday seeing 9 boats enjoying the sunshine and strong winds. Five boats raced while the others just pottered or in the case of Steve and Allan, tried out “Daphne” their newly acquired Albacore. Conditions became more challenging as the morning progressed with a capsize forcing the retirement of Bryan and Arlene in the second race. Fortunately Jordan has taught his mother the skills of “dry capsize”, thus preserving her hairdo for Saturday night out. The state of Bryan’s hair is currently not known.

As part of the boat changing movement going on in the Club, Colin has just bought Jackie’s old Topper, and has already made an impact on the sailing results.
Handicap Race
1. Colin Dickson (Topper)  2. John Graham (Solo) 3. Steve Martin and Allan Brown (Kestrel)
Pursuit Race
1. John Graham (Solo)  2. Colin Dickson (Topper)
There were fewer boats out for Sunday’s training session, but, with the strong winds persisting, they enjoyed some
spectacular planing reaches. After being coerced into coming ashore for lunch, the scheduled short races were held.
Race 1. went to Paul Clark and his crew of Jade and Euan (Albacore), with Colin and Arlene Dickson and Drew Murray (Wayfarer) second.
Race 2. Colin won having switched to the Topper, the Clark family were a close second, with Arlene and Douglas Craig coming in 3rd (Wayfarer)
After some delay on the water while waiting for the start gun, the 3rd race was finally abandoned.
Likely causes for this have been narrowed down to the following three options.
1.   The Race Officer was abducted by aliens?
2.   The Race Officer went off for a shower?
3.   The Race Officer suffered a faint, brought on by the excitement of the racing.
Preferred option to me please.
